Yin and Yang

Yin and Yang

A balance of Yin and Yang in our environment and lives will bring you good Feng Shui.

This is just like there needs to be a balance of work and play in one's life to be truly fulfilling. If one's life is composed of just constant work and little or no time for leisure and other relationships outside of work, one would most likely feel burnt out, tired, and stressed. This type of situation is definitely not conducive for good health or strong relationships. Career success does not translate into happiness if there is no one to share that success with, a balance must exist.

The Tai Chi teaches us that in order to enjoy life and sustain a healthy lifestyle, such as a happy marriage and good health, we have to balance different worlds. In this example, a balance between work and one's home life or leisure activities must exist.

The answer to all Feng Shui afflictions and cures can be found in the simple Tai Chi symbol. One of the most predominate ideology derived from the Tai Chi is the concept of staying within the circle.

Yin Yang The two smaller circles contained within the Tai Chi symbol teaches us that the ideal spot in any environment is inside the circle.

We want to be the little white or black dots inside the Tai Chi. Those two dots are surrounded, in every direction, by a balance of yin and yang energy.

The shape of the circle, just like the shapes of the planets, is nature's ideal place to store and contain positive earth energy. By staying within the boundaries of a circle, one is protected and can tap into the nourishing energy of the earth. Usually those "in the circle" will always see more prosperity, good health, and success. To prove this point, let's look at a baseball stadium.

Most baseball stadiums are circular in design, which allows spectators to have an unobstructed view of the players on the field.

If you have ever stood in the middle of a baseball stadium, especially at the pitcher's mound, you will feel the energy that surrounds the stadium. This is because the circle directs the energy down towards the field and holds it there. The players absorb the energy and are protected by the circular structure of the stadium. Is it not the players who enjoy the multi-million dollar corrtracts and the admiration of thousands of adoring fans? Yes, because they are enjoying the protected positive energy contained within the circle.

The concept of staying within the circle should not be taken lightly. Although the yin and yang concept is simple, it is a highly profound insight into the Tai Chi symbol. To tap into the positive energy surrounding our environment, one wants to put himself/herself inside a circle. Just as we feel most secure when a circle of friends or confidants surrounds us, we want to be in the circle to take advantage of the energy that surrounds us and is contained inside the circle.

The energy in the circle is moving and circulating; when one is in the circle we tap into that energy. More evidence of the benefit of staying within the circle can be found just looking at planet Earth. Planet Earth is circular in shape, so are all the other planets in the solar system. This is because gravity on Earth is drawn to the center and as a result forms a sphere, which is a three-dimensional circle.

The natural flow of earth's energy moves in a circular motion and contained within the circle. Next time you are standing at your bathroom sink, observe how the water is drained. You will notice the water moves in a circular pattern as it is being drained. This is no coincidence.

Feng Shui is about imitating nature and the natural flow. By putting ourselves inside a circle, we have, in essence, created a natural flow of energy around us, which means we are in sync with nature. i.e. The Yin and Yang are in balance situation.

When one is inside a circle the energy is everywhere, surrounding our environment because of the circular shape and pattern. Just like an embrace from a friend or loved one, a circular pattern allows earth energy to embrace us as living beings. Therefore, it is better to be inside the circle than out.
