Real Estate Feng Shui: House Number
Real Estate Feng Shui Tip: House numbers are important to give the buyer a sense of arrival and welcome at the property.
Don't rely on "There's a For Sale sign in front." This is not enough to assure the buyer that they have located the right property. You want the house to be very easy to find.
Make sure that the house numbers are large and readable, and that they contrast with the background they are placed on. For example, brown numbers on a brown house are useless. Red, black, or gold are great colors to use, depending on the background. Numbers should be clearly readable from the street. They belong out on the front of the house or garage, not hidden under a shady porch overhang.
Another place to insure there are clear house numbers is on the mailbox at the street. Replace numbers if they are chipped, faded, or missing. It is also a good idea to repaint or replace an old mailbox. It gives a great first impression and updates the house.
Painting the trim is another way to make the house pop and look fresh. Lighter colors of trim can make a small house appear larger.
Feng Shui enhancement
A house that sits below grade, or street level, needs some Feng Shui enhancement.
When you look down at a doorway, it lowers your chi or energy. Just as when you drop your chin when you are sad, you lift your chin up when feeling great. The purpose here is to lift the gaze of the buyer by putting something eye-catching up higher. When you stand at street level you should look straight across and up a bit at the house numbers, a Welcome plaque, or decoration on the outside of the house.
Light fixtures can also do the trick, provided they are raised to the proper position. These eye-catchers should be placed above the garage doors or above the front door to be most effective.
Painting the trim around the roof a light, bright color will also give a below-grade house an energetic lift up to eye level.
