Phoenix

The symbolism of the Chinese phoenix (feng-huang) should not be confused with that of the one we know in the West. The Chinese phoenix has nothing to do with rising from a cleansing fire.

In China, the phoenix is thought to be the king of all birds. It is a strong Feng Shui enhancer.

The body of the phoenix is a symbol of 5 human qualities:

• the head stands for virtue;
• the wings for responsibility and duty;
• the back, for correct behavior;
• the chest, for humanness; and the belly, for reliability.

Some texts speak of a cinnabar-red phoenix who was born in a cinnabar-red cave at the South Pole, and was called the Phoenix of the Cinnabar Mountain.

This might be why Feng Shui speaks about "the red phoenix" or "the red bird."

Depictions of a dragon and a phoenix stand for the masculine (yang) and the feminine (yin) in nature, and together are the symbol of a married couple.

As one of the four heavenly animals, the phoenix stands for south (the direction of strongest yin energy), the day, and summer, as well as strength and action.

In addition, in Feng Shui, the red phoenix is the symbol of freedom, the sun, recognition, and trust.

Since the phoenix is able to observe everything freely from the air, the front of the house (the basic direction of a house) should be open and uncluttered. This provides powerful yang energy for the house. A gently flowing creek in front of the house would also be ideal.

Applications:

• When furnishing a room, it is important that the entrance to the room is open and uncluttered.
• When designing a garden, try to keep the area at the front of the house flat and planted with low-growing plants. Among other things, the front of the house is an ideal place for a pond.
• Place a picture of phoenix in the Fame corner to attract amazing opportunities into your life.
