In Europe, flags were used to signal that the march to victory had begun. The flag became a prominent symbol in coats of arms. Chu Hung-wu, the founder of the Ming Dynasty, went with his army into battle with a red flag. After he had declared himself the emperor he changed the color of the flags to yellow. Yellow was considered the color of the emperor. In feng shui, flags have a different meaning. As a moving object, the flag symbolizes yang energy and attracts chi - the reason flags are so popular with large firms or businesses. They are also used for festivities, business openings, or to call attention to something or someone in the world outside.
