Feng Shui of Windows

Another obvious ource of chi entering your home is through your windows and these ideally need to be kept clean so as not to filter the chi through grime and dirt as it enters your space.

At the same time, very strong bright sunlight can have an overbearing effect on a room and you may need to use curtains, blinds, screens or shutters to diffuse any excessive glare. Windows also need to be proportional to the space.

Too few windows, or windows that are relatively small, will obviously let in less light and less chi. Occupants of this kind of a home are going to feel more isolated, sedentary and retiring. On the other hand, windows that are huge in proportion to the space can bring too much chi into the home, which can have the effect of distracting or overcharging you.

Occupants of this kind of a home will often feel restless, find it difficult to concentrate and have more desire to spend time outside of the home, often spending their money. Modern architecture, with an emphasis on huge windows and glazed French doors, is symbolic of a culture of overspending and living on credit.

The Ideal Window Scenario

  • Windows should be functional. Make sure that all your windows are in good repair, they open easily and are kept clean.
  • Windows should open outwards. This reflects the aim of embracing the chi and the fresh air.
  • Skylights should be correctly positioned. Although skylights offer practi¬cal solutions to tight spaces, there are some locations where they are not suitable. Avoid sleeping under a skylight - this encourages your chi to dissipate while you are asleep while at the same time, the powerful chi from the heavens can have an overbearing effect. Avoid placing the cooker under a skylight - this allows energy from your cooking to dissipate out through the skylight. It is rather like constantly cooking food without using a lid. It does not concentrate the chi. Avoid placing your desk under a skylight - this encourages your chi, ideas, inspiration and concentration to dissipate. If this is unavoidable; consider moving your desk slightly to one side of the skylight to avoid the distraction while at the same time, enjoying the light that it provides.
