Feng Shui Numbers
Feng Shui numbers have become an integral part of Chinese Feng Shui studies about Thousand years ago. King Wen of China was sittig by the banks of River Luo when he saw a giant tortoise emerged from the river. On the back of the tortoise were circular dots of black and white markings which made up the magic square. The magic square on the tortoise's back contained all the numbers from 1 to 9. They formed the basis of feng shui, the I Ching, Chinese astrology, and Chinese numerology.

Other than that, numbers play a small role in Feng Shui. However, numbers can make a big difference to some Chinese who believe that Feng Shui and numerology are closely related. They believe that it is possible to change their lives by using numbers. Many Chinese like the number eight because it sounds like "prosperity" in Cantonese. Therefore, it is considered most auspicious to have as many 8s as possible in phone number, bank account, car license plate, mobile phone number, etc. Living at a house with many number 8s will attract more wealth. A good example will be the 2008 Olympics held in Beijing on 8th August 08. Feng Shui numbers probably played a big part in deciding what date the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games should start. The date is 08/08/08 (month/day/year) and close to close to 08:08:08 pm. See how many times the number 8 appears !! The Chinese do go the extra miles to make sure the opening ceremony takes place on a very lucky day, month, year and time. The number that most Chinese try to avoid is number four because in Cantonese it sounds like "death". For this reason, Chinese will avoid having a car or a house with this number. The Chinese also use homophones to determine the meanings of numbers. If the numbers sound like something pleasant or desirable, it is considered good. The number twenty-eight sounds like "easy to become prosperous". Fifty-eight is not good as it sounds like "no prosperity". Because of this belief, house with number eight will fetch a good price, and house with number 4 may have to be sold at a loss.
