Feng Shui for Bedroom - Tips for Beds and Bedding

In Feng Shui for bedroom, the beds and beddings are part of your chi field, and they are highly influential on your sleep.

We all know that the quality of our sleep will greatly affect our long-term health. It is important to get about six hours of deep, undisturbed sleep each night, so that our body can repair, heal and regenerate itself properly.

Bedframe

  • Wood is the ideal material for a bedframe, as it does not distort the local magnetic field. Wood is also softer than metal and attracts a more yin, calming chi into your chi field.
  • A four-poster bed helps contain the energy around you and is particularly useful if you sleep in a large bedroom with high ceilings, where the chi energy can move quickly.
  • The height of your bed should be in proportion to the height of your ceiling. So in a bedroom with a low ceiling, use a low bed such as a futon on a base. Try to keep at least 1.8 m (6 ft) between the top of your bed and the ceiling so that there is plenty of room for your chi to move freely. The higher the bed, the more you may be stimulated intellectually. The lower the bed, the more practical you should feel.

Mattresses

  • Choose a mattress made from natural materials. Cotton, wool, straw and hair are preferable to foam and other man made materials. Synthetics carry a static charge and, as this will be inside your chi field, it can eventually make you feel unsettled.
  • Cotton futons are ideal, as they promote harmonious chi flow. Use a wooden base to raise the futon off the floor and air it properly, or put a futon on any wooden-slatted bed base. Its firmness will help if you suffer from back problems.
  • Avoid pocket-sprung mattresses containing metal springs, as they distort the local magnetic field.

Beddings

  • It is best to have pure cotton or linen closest to your skin for good chi flow. These materials also breathe, which is important because humans can secrete up to 1 litre of fluid at night through the skin while sleeping.
  • Avoid synthetic fabrics.
  • Avoid using an electric blanket, as it will greatly increase your exposure to the electromagnetic field. Even when the blanket is switched off, it will distort the natural magnetic field.
