Enhancing Relationship
Feng Shui Bedroom Tips

Beijing

Feng Shui bedroom tips are all about archiving stability in our long-term relationship with our partner. Since the bed you share with your partner is symbolic of this relationship, it too needs to be stable, you should not miss out the Feng Shui tips mentioned above.

Lighting
Feng Shui Bedroom Tips

Given that the bedroom is a more yin environment, the lighting that you choose needs to reflect this. Soft lighting is ideal. Avoid having ceiling lamps directly over the bed as they could be a source of cutting chi. If you have a ceiling light in the centre of the room, which represents the balancing point of the space, make sure the shade is designed in such a way that it does not provide cutting chi. Overhead lamps that form into a sharp point below them are the worst type to have in any room - but especially a bedroom.

Matching Colours
Feng Shui Bedroom Tips

Colours should match the lighting and should be soft and warm. Pastel colours are better than bright white, bright red, deep black and so on. If you are fond of strong colours, incorporate them into the decor in the room in small amounts - a bright bedspread, a bright lampshade, a bright sash for the curtains or a brightly coloured stool or chair.

About Mirrors
Feng Shui Bedroom Tips

Mirrors can also pose a problem with regard to chi in the bedroom as they tend to stimulate the chi making it difficult to rest, relax and sleep. In times gone by, people either never possessed one or if they used them for dressing, they kept them in an adjacent room known as the 'dressing room'. In this day and age, they are often found in the bedroom. While very useful for protection or even enhancement, they also have the capacity to drain your chi while you are asleep. Avoid sleeping with your image visible in any mirror. The worst scenario of all is a mirror at the foot of your bed. Ideally, remove these mirrors or, if this is not possible, cover them up while you are asleep. If you need a full-length mirror for dressing, consider hanging it on the inside of a cupboard door.

Feng Shui Bedroom Tips

As you lie in your bed, notice what is on the wall straight ahead of you when you wake up. Waking up to an image that inspires you can really set the tone for the day. Do you have a favourite painting, or a window with a wonderful view? Perhaps you wake up with a view of cluttered bookshelves, an untidy wardrobe or boxes and magazines that should be relegated to the municipal dump!

As we already know, not only is chi circulating in our space but we are also being charged by the two fundamental forces of Heaven and Earth. Having dealt with beams, lights or other obstructions above the bed, you also need to check if anything is potentially blocking the energy that you receive from Earth via the ceil¬ing below you, through the floor and most importantly, the space between the carpet and your mattress. Try to keep this area completely clear and get rid of any unwanted items that might be lurking there.

Given that the bedroom is primarily a yin environment for rest, you need to minimise the use of the electrical gadgets connected with your day to day 'busyness'. These might include a mobile phone and its charger, fax machine or a computer. At the very least, switch these off before you go to sleep, cover them up and, ideally, remove them from the room. Televisions, videos and even a bedside radio or digital clock emit electromagnetic frequencies that can disturb your sleep. The most powerful of all, the television, is best not kept in the bedroom but if you must have it there keep it at least 9 feet from your bed and make sure you turn it off before you go to sleep and take the plug out of the socket.

Finally, try out all these ideas, or some of them at least, for a minimum of 10 days to notice the benefits. There is very little value in trying this or that just for one night to see if it has any effect. In the same way, despite all the differing opinions regarding the best position of your bed, try out different ones until you find the one that seems satisfactory. Most of this is common sense, some of it is intuitive and certainly some of it is scientifically based. It is your space, so you need to make it work for you.
