Chi and Food

Chi and food are not to be neglected, even though you are eating a diet that is complete and well balanced in terms of nutrients.

Chi Energy

Every thing you eat has its own chi energy field and, once this is inside you, it will have a subtle influence on your own chi.

If you continue to eat the same foods over a long period of time, they will start to have a pronounced effect on you.

As a general rule, it is helpful to try to eat foods that are still 'living' up to the time you cook them.

This includes wholegrains, dried beans, vegetables, fruits, nuts and seeds.

Vegetables and fruits

  • To understand the chi of foods, start with the way they grow. For example, root vegetables [such as carrots) grow downwards into the ground, whereas vegetables that grow along the ground [such as pumpkin) have a more relaxed energy. If you followed this line of thinking and wanted to eat carrots (or their strength and their ability to grow past obstacles, you would choose those carrots that have had to bend around stones, rather than straight, even carrots that have been grown in soft soil.

Meat and fish

  • Similarly you can think about the characteristics of the animals you eat. Nervous animals [such as chicken) will pass on this type of Chi when you eat them. A fish such as wild salmon will give you the chi to swim against the flow and jump obstacles, whereas squid will help you relax and go with the flow.

Cooking methods

  • In addition to the food itself, think about the way it is prepared. Frying on a high flame will add a lot of fiery chi energy to your ingredients. This energy will enter your own chi field, helping you feel more outgoing and expressive. Conversely, slowly stewing a dish will give you more slow-burning energy.

Teas

  • Teas have been usedthroughout the ages for anything from digestive disorders to headaches.

Hot liquids are quickly absorbed into the bloodstream and tend to soothe your digestive system. As water is the main ingredient of any tea and as humans ar,e primarily made up of water, the water chi of the tea interacts very easily with the Chi of the water inside you, influencing your health and emotions.
